Say the MG Midget hadn't been killed off and been allowed to evolve instead, it's nice to think that we might have ended up with something like the Suzuki Cappuccino. A cheeky looking, beautifully balanced, rear wheel drive, affordable, open topped two seater sportscar.
Purists might scoff at its 657cc three cylinder engine but they could not be more wrong. Fuel injection plus a turbo charger plus an intercooler plus 12 valves all combine to boost its performance. And though peak power of 63bhp doesn't sound like a heck of a lot of horses, those horses don't have to gallop that hard for such a compact lightweight roadster at brisk pace.
Floor the accelerator and a sharp shove between the shoulder blades tells you that you're dealing with a true sportscar and a rear wheel drive one at that. The little engine is beefy enough to allow you to hold your own in the cut and thrust of big city traffic and to really fly once you're clear of the suburbs.
Alright we know Cappuccino is utterly impractical. But it certainly turns heads... Cappuccino is huge fun. Remember fun?
