Phew - what decade are we dealing with here Andrew - it feels as though it might be early 1930s? 1940s?

Think I need to give another clue.

The director also directed "That Big One!!"

I'll give it a little longer then break down the original clue, which I think will give it away. Maybe :? Hopefully :!:

Sorry Andrew haven't had much time to work this one out - maybe Ed or Danny can get it.

Lewis Milestone - All Quiet On The Western Front

milestone - high point
soundless - all quiet
facade - front
Albert - Uncle Albert Trotter
Ernest Borgnine starred in "The Mob", and in the 1979 remake of All Quiet On The Western Front

I don't watch eastenders so i can't really say about the slater (Kat - Katczinsky?), and please don't tell me that the rice pudding is muller!
I'm guessing tht Richard Thomas is the one with the large family in the blue ridge mountains, but i've no idea really :)

Yep all correct Ed

Richard Thomas played John-Boy Walton in The Waltons

See wasn't that hard was it Ken :?

The western part came from

Street - st - going into the rearranged letters of newer

It has to be said i wouldn't have got it without the clue about the mob, and even then i still spent a fair while going over actors with mafia connections before realising you meant the film "The Mob"! That gave me Ernest Borgnine who i remembered seeing in All Quiet from watching both versions for GCSE English Literature.
From there on, IMDB confirmed the last few clues, and helped my memory for the director who i'd completely forgotten :)

Film, director, star, and author please...

A circular film starring a man from my county of birth (yorkshire), directed by a man who lived a few stops on the train from where i live now, in an adaptation of a novel by a russian author who had synesthesia and composed his work in the same way as phaedrus.

Ah a nice easy one for us. I'll let others have a go before I give my answer. Yeah right! :?

Believe it or not I have actually got it! Anyone else want a go first?
Andrew Milne

Postby Ed Swindell » Mon Feb 14, 2005 19:21

be careful how long you wait - I don't think Ken will take too long to get it

If you want to get your answer in before Ken without spoiling his own attempt at it, you can always PM me it - If it's wrong i'll let you know and you can then post it publicly, if it's right you can wait til you think others have had a fair chance before going public!
