nope, a frayed knot.

The clues are reasonably direct and not too cryptic. It's easiest to guess through who's in it and who directed it.

Not difficult to guess that both are still guesses. Only real correlation is that both comprise a four segment narrative sequence of themed vignettes No idea what Sam Gamgee's favourite animal is (other than Bill the Pony)

well guesses they may be but one's right. And for sams favourite animal, you need to think of either early in ROTK or late in TTT

right - this is like a cryptic crossword clue. :D

Well I guess on balance it's more likely to be Rose Troche's Safety of Objects

Elements
- 'Go Fish'
four vignettes
- comatose kid

I still don't get the Gamgee bit though -- Shelob??? nah surely not. I mentioned Bill earlier.

Working in the dark - don't know the film - seems worth watching though

So all in all Dr Watson I deduce The Safety of Objects

Safety of Objects it was. The clues decoded below:

The stories from homes [The book was written by AM Homes] , four of them [The four families], and features sam gamgees favourite animal [Sam's favourite animal was the oliphant, and the film stars Timothy Olyphant], as well a mother who's very close [Glenn Close plays the Mother] to her comatose son from down the creek [Josh Jackson who plays the comatose son also played pacey in Dawson's Creek] where the director goes fishing [Rose Troche director of safety of objects and the critically acclaimed Go Fish].

Your turn!

Director A, assisted by Directors B and C, cast Director D - who 'wanted to be an ordinary parish priest' in the role of a man of Brabant.

Name the directors and the film which unites them all

Thought I'd got this cracked. The film would be Yume based on –
Director D – Martin Scorsese – Line from The Last Temptation of Christ and he played Vincent Van Gogh in Yume who was born near Brabant.
Director A - Akira Kurosawa
Director B - Ishirô Honda
Struggling for director C though!

Also Known As:
Akira Kurosawa's Dreams
Dreams
I Saw a Dream Like This
Konna yume wo mita
Such Dreams I Have Dreamed (Japan: English title)

Well done Andrew

Image

Same as me - right film but not quite right in deconstruction.

Director B is George Lucas
Director C is Stephen Speilberg
(they both collaborated with Akira on this strange and beautiful movie).

Anyone who hasn't seen it is due a real visual treat - a bit self indulgent but if Kurosawa couldn't be self indulgent who the heck could?

Your go Andrew

OK well here goes! Film and director

It was a high point for the director when it was soundless on the street in a funny newer facade

Much easier to guess than to create a good one!

Here's a couple of extra clues.

It’s characters include a Slater, a Trotter and a rice pudding.

Its 1980 remake saw a cast member who was in The Mob. Another used to live in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia with his very large family.
