Great drive

Postby Jacob Dean » Sat Jul 01, 2006 18:11

I've just been for my most entertaining drive yet :) I went over the Snake Pass (A57) from Glossop to Sheffield and back again. The road is great, with enough long straights to let you enjoy the picturesque hills somewhat and enough tight twisty bits to let your Cappuccino enjoy the shape of the hills too! I've driven that road a few times but the weather was great today, nice and hot but a bit cooler high up.

The only downsides were not having enough "oomph" to safely overtake a Mondeo for quite a while on the return trip and the fact that now I REALLY want to do something with my brakes! On the way back into Glossop the road goes into a long descent with quite a few tight 90 degree corners separated by fast straights so it gives your brakes quite a workout if you're doing much more than pootling along. They were fading somewhat by the end of it giving me that bum-clenching "oh no, the pedal's gone all squishy" feeling.

To top the drive off, on the way home fairly near my house there is a set of traffic lights before a clear 50mph stretch of road. I pulled up next to a BMW 3-series (probably a 316 but I don't know because it had no badge) driven my a mother with her young daughter in the passenger seat. Just before the lights went amber I heard the kid say "mummy, race that car!" We had a bit of a giggle with each other at the next set of lights :)

me too - and what a complete waste of time that was eh Lisa - what a let-down.
Portugal were bad but England were......... out of their league!
Amazing difference tonight in the France Brazil game though. They actually played some football!!!!

France vs Germany or Italy looks the thing now.

Great Drive + brakes

Postby John R Walters » Sun Jul 02, 2006 00:02

Just repeating what I have posted on another forum.

The best economical brake upgrade in my ‘umble’ opinion is:-

Stainless steel braided brake lines; Black Diamond grooved and drilled front discs, and EBC Red Stuff brake pads.

This set up cured a brake fade problem that had a wicked habit of inducing panic and also saved on the laundry bills!!

Who is this team called 'England'

They are a bunch of vastly overpaid Prima Donnas’ who are regularly (every 4 years) shown up for what they are: - A bunch of tossers that need to be penalised in future if they don’t perform.

Now we have got rid of that W****r of a Manager we might have a chance, although I will never believe it until they produce the goods. TOSSERS alll!

Playing against a team like Portugal is always going to produce an ugly, frustrating game (they must have padding in their shirts, the amount of time they spend on the ground), but England are a bunch of good players, but not a good team.

We lack the flair and imagination that Brazil and France oozed.

ZZ is looking frighteningly good.

I am no football aficionado, so have a somewhat more remote opinion of what do the England team ever do. Nothing but scrape thought each leg!

Time for some robust discipline in as much if they don’t win they will be not allowed to play. Period.
I have in mind other penalties but don’t think they are likely to be enforced.

Just choose future players who want to play but are not part of this obscene Circus that foo’ball has become

We went to a party... The house owners unplugged all the TVs and put them in the garage...... So all the football fans went next door... Not being a football fan I didn't bother so myself and another guy were left with about ten wives

Just back from a 150 mile run through Gloucestershire, Worcestershire, Herefordshire and Shropshire..(and almost Wales).

On the route we saw a gathering of Austin Healeys in a pub car park on the A49 and we flashed a 10 car Lotus Elise convoy near Aston-on-Clun.

We've also seen almost 100 vintage cars of all types, ages & descriptions out on the road - all going to Bromyard Gala.

And to complete a great drive in the sun we saw an Aerial Atom!

It's something they do on the continent Ian. It's not part of the English culture yet - not like croquet for example.

I should hope not! Whatever next? Khirgiz tribesmen on ponies scrapping after a horses head?

Actually it's not much different to that - why not just substitute it
The tribesmen do it without payment, I believe.......

Our lot could do it on grass, and the French on clay

Dick, those car football games (wheelball, surely?) look like just about the most fun it's possible to have without someone of the opposite sex (or same sex if you're that way inclined) involved :D

I'm tempted to make a crude pun about gearsticks but I'll resist ;)
