Speed Limit Defencer

Postby Austin Gillespie » Sat Jul 13, 2024 10:16

My cap is a 1995 EA21 with the auto transmission and I was looking at the HKS SLD devices to remove the speed limiter but they say the EA21 model is only for the manual trans. I assume that it wouldn't work on the auto, but does anybody either know if it would, of another device that would accomplish that goal, or if there's a workaround/cable to cut? Thanks

I assume the reason it can't work on the Auto model is that the speed is not measured by pulses from the differential. If that's the case, it's hard to say what else could be done without the information on how the speed IS measured. If the AT is ECU-controlled, it could be that, though I have always understood that it was a basic mechanical/hydraulic AT, with no electronics.

Btw, raising the speed implies sustained higher rpm in top gear. With the F6A engine, it was found that the fuel map did not extend to that region, so the engine was running lean, and exhaust valves tended to burn-out This was overcome by using the N1 ECU from SuzukiSport, which removed the speed limiter and also adjusted the fuelling for higher mass flow, usually in conjunction with measures to increase boost. However, I'm not aware whether an upgraded ECU was available for the K6A, but if such was made, that would be what you want.
