CAPPUCCINO SALE PRICES!!

Postby Fatmir Cukovic » Fri May 17, 2002 06:09

Hello All,

Is it just me, or Cappuccino's just sell in the first day in England, because Australian's don't seem to want cappo's ( just very few of them ).

Mine has been FOR SALE for 6 months now, and only had 2 real callers that were interested, checked it out, and said Ohh it's in perfect condition, I'll get back to you, and never got back to me, I might have to put a few scratches on it, and then maybe I'll get a sale!! What is going wrong?

I know it's an Auto, but In Australia, Automatics fetch $2000 more then a manual would, with new and semi new cars!!

I've seen cappuccino's for sale in Australia, and they were 1993-94 models, the 93 sold at $31,000 Aussie dollars, and the 1994 sold at $32,000 aussie dollars, and these are manual's were talking about, so I started off with $30,000 on the cappo not to be greedy, bairly got a call, dropped it to $29,000, not many calls, dropped it to $28,000, then after a few people checking it out, and for no reason didn't call back, I dropped it to $26,500 which it will stay at that price now!! I brought the car into Australia for $33,000 total, put 30,000km's on the clock, and now I have to drop it $5,500 just for 30,000km's.

Some people don't know a good car when they see it, There must be somthing seriously wrong here!! And it's not the Auto, as all people that checked it were after an Auto, and all they could say is I'll get back to you after I look around, and I said "LOOK AROUND" there's only about 5 to 7 Auto cappo's in Australia, so good luck!!

Do you think it is to expensive?

$26,500 would = to be about 8500 to 9000pounds!! and I've seen other cappo's going for about that with heaps more km's and there older models then mine.

I just want to hear it from other cappo owners, as I'm very sure I haven't over rated my price range on my cappo.

Anyways enough of my whining!!

THANKS

Fatmir

You sure you haven't overestimated your price range? because the rest of us cap owners in Aus have been chocking at the price you are trying to sell it at!

I bought mine (a 93 manual) for $15k not long ago, there was one in suzuki in the city here in adelaide for $13990, which only just sold and took months and they no doubt talked them down a grand or so. I know about 2-3 others just in adelaide for sale ATM for about $14-15k.

I'm sorry, but you're pretty much dreaming at $26,500, even thought it may be good condition, and the later model and auto, etc.
I've never personally seen one advertised for over $22k. Aside from in adelaide, the only one advertised ATM i think is in a car yard is NSW or VIC for $19990 or so, and they've had it for at least 3 months i think. (and it may be a K6A too..?)

Losing $5k over 30,000km isn't really bad at all, especially on a cap where kms really matter. Try doing better than that on most other cars, new or second hand.

I think the price of caps may have been a lot higher a few years or so ago, when you got yours in i guess, but not so anymore.
Too rare, unheard, expensive and less practical than most sports cars means they are not popular i guess. Most people who want a sports car can buy a MX-5 or something for about the same price and they are bigger, cheaper to maintain, etc, and they are well know, most people wouldn't think about a cap instead.

Personally if i had my heard set on a K6A and auto (which i never would!, manuals kick autos, especially in sports cars) then i wouldn't pay over $20k i would think.

Ok, enough rambling during work time, better go.

Good luck selling it!!!!

Well then you should have said somthing to me, I'm not saying it in a clever way, but I've been contemplating whether I've done the right thing!! What year was the one that went for $14-15k? Do any of you guys own a Limited Edition 1997 cappo? If yes, when and at what price did you purchase? So many people are worried about the Auto's, but It's more relaxing, regardless of a sports car or not + it flys anyways, and that is good enough.

No offence to manual's as my MK1 escort has a 5 speed on the floor and I love that aswell.

I certainly wouldn't drop it to 20k, now that is rediculous, losing $13,000 dollars or nearly 1/2 the value of a car after 2 years of usage, I very much doubt that, also my car is insured for $27,500, and last year was at $28,000, so I can't see the car going for 20k.

I'll think about going the extra grand or two lower, but I'll see what happens first as I just put my car on CarSales.com about 3-4 days ago.

Anyways Thomas

Thanks for your straight forward reply!!

mANY REGARDS

Well most F6A caps in aus are usually 93's.
I think the one in the dealer here that went for around $13k was a 93 (low kms too).
I then know of 3 people who have been trying to sell their, approx 93, cars for months, maybe longer than you, are are down to around the $14 to $15k range, and some of them even have mods - exhaust, aftermarket mags, etc, and low kms. I'm not sure that they are all 93's actually, some may be newer.

Another example - someone bought a 95 F6A silver cap from NSW in absolutely immaculate condition - I do mean IMMACULATE too none of this advertising crap. Done less than 10,000km, imported from new, and they paid significantly less than $20k!

I suspect the prices of caps in the eastern states are, for once, more expensive than adelaide. eg in carsales.com there is one for $19 and another for $20. I just realised that at least one of those has been there for at least 4 months, maybe a lot longer, and they are both dealers so they would tend to be higher than private sales.
If it takes months and months to sell comparitively cheap average caps, how long does it take to sell an expensive newer one?!

I thought yours is on carsales.com - i can't see it there....

The problem is, even though yours is newer than most, and auto, etc (and limited edition?), few people want to pay $14k for a average one, so no one wants to pay $26k for a good, newer one, it doesn't make sence. I could probably (almost definately) buy two 93 caps here for what you want for yours!! (and I'd rather have two!)
Plus the parts for the K6A are even rarer (doesn't seem possible!) than for the F6a - personally even at the same price as a F6A I'd be slightly concerned about buying a K6A.
I know I can easily buy a imported engine, trans, etc for mine - but I've never seen a K6A one, and god knows what you'd pay for them!

I haven't seen/driven a auto cap, but I'd put money on being able to drag you off very easily, even with my F6A!
BTW - i wouldn't really say they fly - many small, standard, new cars can give me a run for my money in a drag, even with it slightly boosted.
Aside from around corners of course :D
Or unless you've put a huge turbo, etc on it like Luke here has done.

BTW losing that much money on a car in 2 years is certainly not unheard of, and not particulary uncommon. New cars are cheap, therefore the 2nd hand market isn't good and it is easy to lose lots of money on a car. I'd also say it sounds like you overpaid for it in the first place!

Anyways....

Been reading these messages and if you want to sell the car you need to drop the price otherwise keep the car and enjoy it.

If the demand is not there you'll be luckly to get 20K. Beside most cars will lose money as soon as you buy them. I would keep the car and enjoy the driving experience.

Hello All,

Thanks for your replys!!! I'll see what happens first, I really don't want to sell it, but when you have to, you have to!! I really don't have a choice.

No I'm not bankrupt!!

I won't go into detail as to why I'm selling it, but It's a genuine reason.

I have got 2 people checking it out next weekend, so after that I'll see what needs to be done.

Cheers
