The Great Cappo Model Code Survey

OK folks, let's try to get to the bottom of the Model Codes mystery (No that's not Muddle Codes, but...).

What we're asking is for everyone to open their bonnet and read the blue data plate on the bulkhead, near the battery.

It looks like this if the car is a JDM, or a different layout if the car is an export model:

Image

What we would like to know, please, is the Model Code on yours. That's the field starting CAX (for JDM) or CAB (for export), and the VIN/Chassis Number (starting EA11(or 21)R, or JSAEEA11R). You can put Xs for the last three digits of the VIN if you wish.

Also, if the car is JDM, please tell us whether your car has:
  • ABS (the unit is behind the carpet on the left of the boot)
  • Airbag (the steering wheel has 4 spokes, 2 horn buttons and says "airbag")
  • Limited Slip Differential (can't tell by looking, but jack up the back, gear in neutral (use chocks!) and rotate a back wheel - if the other turns the same way, it's got LSD)
  • Any other "goody" which you think could have been a factory fit
Instead of posting the answers here, please PM me, or email ian@score.org.uk.

I will compile the answers into a table, which will be posted on the board, so we can all have a go at deducing the answer.

Ian,
A long time ago I studied all original brochures and made a matrix with all model codes and all the standard options. This list was available in Dutch on my old website If you want I can translate it to English. This will save you investigation.

Yes, please, Marcel, and please don't forget to let me have your Model Code

reads:
TYPE: E-EA21-R
Chassis number: EA21R-1010303
Engine: K6A 658CC
Color: Y33 D65
CAFX-3

not sure what all of it means though....

Thanks

Hi Jeff,

To post a pic, upload either to the gallery on this board (link is near the top on the left), or elsewhere, and paste the url into your post using the {Img} button above the post window.

The decode is available from the Cappo production info page. Click "information " at the top. You have the updated EA21R model with the K6A engine, which has a cam chain drive, rather than a belt. The EA21R was not officially exported, so there is no English language documentation for it, unfortunately. However, we do have the Parts Manual in the manuals section.

Hi Cathy,

Thanks for the data. If you want to know the meaning of the Model Code, see here.

You would need to use Photoshop (or a similar photo-processing software) to reduce the image size (less pixels). You can also compress jpg's to a greater degree, to reduce the file size.

Cathy,

FYI ...

The colour code "1VN..." indicates "Mercury Silver", which is consistent with "JSAEEA11R..." and "CAB114P02", which indicate UK/Europe specification. Roughly 20% of the UK/Europe Cappos were Mercury Silver, 80% red.

If your Cappo is blue, then it would appear to have been resprayed at some point.

Hello everyone,
Looking over the different model codes, I did not see mine listed. Am I the odd man out or is it just a model that hasn't been listed before.
Ben

Hi Ben,

I guess you were looking at the Cappuccino Production tables. It shows your Cappo as a JDM CAXF (early production base model). The -W suffix denotes winter equipment, which appears seemingly randomly in JDM Cappos. If we had the sales records, we might find a correlation with Prefecture of sale, or time of year.

My guess is that it correlates with those sold on the northernmost island, Hokkaido :D

Greg,

Looks like your Cappo was originally 0DE= Satellite Silver Metallic.

Yeah the power steering is a big plus for me. I've got long legs and in one with manual steering there was alot of knuckles colliding with knees while i was test-driving.

The limited also has chromed scuff plates on the door sills and it came with black enkei suzukisport wheels (though i'm not totally certain those were factory)

Hi All, I hope this is not too late to be useful.
I have spent the last 2 1/2 years welding the bottom back in my Cappuccino and got it MOT'd in September 2019. Find it impossible to post a picture here even with your instructions (which I admit I don't fully understand) but VIN plate says the following:-
TYPE EEA11R
COLOR 0PZ D23
ENGINE F6A
CAB114P02

Hope that's of interest. I have many stage photos but I can't post them. Sorry!

Can't find a way to post a photo to the gallery either. I suspect I'm too thick to make this site work. Irritating but true
