What is a ECU?

Postby Nicholas Logothetis » Fri Jul 18, 2003 06:32

Hi

What is the ECU?
Is it a standard component on the Cappuccino? If not, is it worthwhile having one fitted?
Does Suzuki make one for the Cappuccino?
How much do they cost?
What is involved in having one fitted to the car?

Thank you
Nick

Hi Nick,

The ECU or sometimes known as the ECM is the control Unit for any Fuel Injected Car. The Cap has one (Located to the left hand side of the passenger footwell hidden by the Glove Compartment.)

The ECU controls, fueling, timing and basically anything else that the car needs to run. You can get the ECU Chipped which changes the standard Map of any ECU which can give you more power.

Hope this helps,

Adam

Hi Adam,

Thanks for the information, it does help. Now then is the ECU chip an option that can be fitted into the car. Does Suzuki make such a chip for the Cappuccino? Is there significant power boost with this chip?

Thanks
Nick

Hi Nick.

All Cappo's have an ECU. It's the "brains" of the car, all sensors are inputed to the ECU which then works out what the timing, fuelling air etc. should be.

It can be upgraded to give more power by adjusting fuel maps, timing and removing or adjusting speed and rev limiters.

Suzuki Sport do 2 for the cappuccino.

The N1, which can be used with the standard engine, which can be altered for higher boost pressure.

And the N2 which is used for bigger turbo, bigger injectors etc.

There are other 3rd party chips too (such as Superchips).

Hope this helps

Hi Nick,

I think you'll find some of the things you want to know at the turbo topic 8)

For info on the Suzuki Sport N1 and N2 click here, then click "sport computer", also "turbo kit".
