New Honda S660

Postby Kevin Sullivan » Mon Apr 06, 2015 13:39

Looks tasty, a newly-designed 2-seater 660cc Kei-class car. 4-wheel traction control (unlike Cappu ;) ) and updated styling.

The press has mentioned the chassis can handle an uprated 1.0L engine, possibly for European release next year?

Curse you Kevin, now I'm going to have to save up...........again.

That looks fabulous, a modern "Beat".

The youtube clips of the test drives are interesting, it looks like quite pronounced understeer when pushed, though in fairness they were going into corners at 130kph. At least it doesn't appear to "bite" on the limit.

Will it get to the UK? We wait with baited breath .....................

I want one too!! 8) But first, I want to get a Honda Beat followed by (either a badge-engineered) Suzuki Cara or Autozam AZ-1. Together with my Cappo, that'll make a grand total of 4 Kei sports cars in my humble stable!

Ah well! I suppose I can dream on .... unless I win the lottery this weekend!

Nah, too much electronics to go wrong. I'll stay with my Cappo.

I'm keeping an eye on the [Honda] S660 too - so you're not alone! Price from new should be quite reasonable, I would have thought! But I suppose you can import one privately as JDM cars are right-hookers .... BTW, check out the new Daihatsu Copen Robe (I think it's pronounced "Ro-Bei" .... ) After the sedate appearance of the first Copen, I'm guessing that Daihatsu decided that a Kei sports would be what they're marketing and not merely a pretty convertible. And it's turbo'd as well!

Just keeping up with the usual plug-in diagnostics; so no need to lose any sleep over it... Out of curiosity, did the Cappo come with plug-in diagnostics? I thought that cars produced in the 1990's already have them as standard...

So there's another Kei sports for my garage! (I make it 5 now... ) 8)

No plug in diagnostics for the Cappo. Just count the flashes of the MIL, and interpret according to Page 6E-33. Fairly limited stuff.

But my point is that there are far more points of failure in heavily "electronicised" cars. The diagnostics may be more comprehensive, but the probability of requiring them is much greater.

Not a problem...probably explains why there was no multi-pin socket [for diagnostics] just under the dashboard near the steering column...

BTW, I just had the alternator replaced because I think it was the original one - a Nippon Denso - that was factory fitted; and it was on its last legs! The replacement is from a [Suzuki] Swift, and I had to swap the pulley around from the old unit so that it could "line up" with the fan belt. Another thing I found out is that Denso is now part of the Bosch group; and the replacement alternator is a Bosch. The garage simply replaced the block connector with a Bosch one and all's well! The new unit is slightly more powerful than the one it replaced!

I don't have a part number for the new alternator; but it should be a stock item from a Suzuki dealership. :)

Bosch sold its shares in Denso back in 2012, the initial tie-up dated back to 1953 it appears.

If the mounts are common and the speed capability is similar, then an alternator is an alternator, more or less. Useful to know there are alternatives.
