26 June 2011 - Summer Solstice Swoop

Postby Adrian Furniss » Tue May 10, 2011 23:49

It’s high time for a B/H/S/IoW/CI regional meet and the long days of mid-Summer should be ideal.

OK, I know the 26th is not actually the solstice but the days are very nearly as long just one week later.

I have chosen a route that allows us to revisit a couple of old SCORE haunts, plus some new venues in the Surrey Hills.

The Swoop

10:30 : Meet/Natter: Car Park OS GridRef TQ 171522, near Burford Bridge Roundabout.
11:30 : Drive to Peaslake, lunch at The Hurtwood Inn.
13:30 : Drive to Polesden Lacey: "Lazy Jazz Sunday" (2:00 – 4:00 pm). Free event but entrance fee applies (National Trust members free).
16:15 : Drive to Gomshall for early supper/tea.
When we’re ready : Disperse.

All members welcome. The more the merrier.

Put it in your diary now: Sunday 26th June 2011

The meeting point will be very nostalgic for me. This is where we met for my first ever SCORE event as an owner in 2001.

I had navigated for Ian about a year earlier so I already knew that SCORE was a good crowd.

Pleased to report that the Summer Solstice Swoop attracted six Cappos, and the only complaint about the weather was "toooooo hot" (mainly from me). The UK's two-day heatwave saw maximum daytime temperatures of about 30C. We all went lids off of course - and who knows when the next opportunity might be?

Note the strength of the shadows in the photos! It really was one sunny day.
