Mazda AZ-1

Postby David Regan » Thu Jan 10, 2008 02:07

Hi guys.

I've been looking at the AZ-1 on some Jap auction websites (dreaming ) and wonder about the practicalities of purchasing one (around £8k) and having it imported to the UK. I know of only one car based in Europe and that's the one that's featured via SCORE. I doubt they're easy to insure or get parts for!!!!

Marcel in Holland has one (the Suzuki version, but the differences are cosmetic).

As I recall, he said its roadholding is superb, but it is cramped compared to a Cappo (even less luggage space), and very hot, because the engine is so close to your back.

Lovely to look at, but not an everyday transport, I think.

The engine parts are the same as the Cappo, but everything else.........

Oh my goodness!!!!!!! What a perfect little car!!!!!

I had no idea that the engine/mechanics are the same as the Cappo. Interesting...

Thanks Marcel. That's really whet my appetite!

One slight problem though. I'm not too sure I could fit into a Cara!!!!

Hello David,
The innerspace is indeed limited compared to a Cappo. I modified the seat rails and gained +/- 10cm extra space. Also a smaller steering wheel is a big help. I am 1.76 meter and fit in. How tall are you?

David,

The AZ-1 is a real sportscar. So don't expect luxury like a glovebox
You will fit in but there will be not much space left. Also for me the Cara is not suitable for daily use.

Hi David,

I've only got one thing to say on this - Do it!! Finally got mine about 3 weeks ago (6.5K on the road) and although it's cramped and awkward to get in to it hasn't been left at home on the drive since I got it - it's just such great fun!!!

Thanks for your contribution Guest.

Forum permissions were wrong so you were lucky to sneak in there before I closed the door.

And yes I concur, some AZ1 pics would be nice. Don, it's quite easy to start a new Photo Album (see link at top of page) and upload pictures. Of course it's a bit more tricky if you haven't got a digital camera ....

Photos must be in jpg format and not more than 800 pixels wide and 100k in file size.

Ok, I'll try and get the camera out this weekend.
On the subject of pics is there anyone in the Bristol area with a silver Cappuccino? - before I get rid of my silver Beat it might be rather cool to get a pic of a full set of silver ABCs.

It sure is. Would not be a fan of the colour either.
