New Page Header

Postby Adrian Furniss » Thu Oct 20, 2005 12:31

Some time ago, I designed a new SCORE header but shelved it in favour of competing priorities. I propose to roll it out in the near future.

It will include one, two or three navigation rows depending on where you are and whether you are logged in or not.

Here is a preview:

Any comments at this stage?

They look great Adrian - just what's needed - a nice new classy look to the old board/site. Happy to see the Classifieds on there - good to keep the search button so prominent (maybe a little artricle is needed in the Mag - showing people how to creatively interrogate our DB via Search.??)

Great job - AGAIN!!!!

TIA

Looks very professional - a logical development to the current navigation bar.

How about re-wording the message box to something more simple... Your PM Box.... PM Inbox?

I'm happy with it as it looks much better than what we have now.

OK folks, as you can no doubt see the new headers have been rolled out.

It will take a little time to get used to the new positions of the links, the logic of which is described in the lead post above.

Thus far, just two minor issues have been reported:
  1. Blue Links: On non-Message Board pages (Home, Information etc), users may observe low contrast blue-on-blue links. This is caused by local cacheing of a stylesheet. You will need to force-refresh using Ctrl-F5, which is fairly universal across all browsers. The links should then become white, as per message board pages.
  2. Search Link: The SearchForums button linked to the wrong page. It is now fixed.
Please post any further observations here.

I almost forgot, something else was included in the rollout.

Our seasonal snowflakes now automatically turn themselves on and off in accordance with the following simple rules:

25th December +/- 60 days : Some snowflakes
25th December +/- 30 days : More snowflakes
25th December +/- 6 days : Flakes + wait and see
St Valentines Day : Wait and see
Easter (Good Friday - Easter Monday) : Wait and see

Hint: Snowflake images are easily substituted.

This year's flakes also now finish in a more friendly way. Instead of just stopping in mid air then disappearing, they will now die more gracefully.

I realise that the fun stuff may not be everyone's cup of tea, and confess that it might be really annoying. I am prepared and willing to provide an ON-OFF setting in the Profile if asked. Meanwhile, flakes are confined to the Splash-screen page, Home page, Forum Index page, and their duration on screen is kept short.

I am not sure whether we need post cards any more - I do not see any evidence they are being used but I err towards Adrian's observations.
