Fiat Barchetta

Postby David Regan » Fri Aug 10, 2007 12:31

Hi all,

Does anyone have any experience with the Barchetta and are they worth getting?

Hi David, I've always liked them a bit, but am put off by the fact that they are all LHD, which means you need a spotter in the passenger seat all the time and the road wheels look too small.
Also, they are FWD, which is the wrong end for a sportscar.
Anyway, here's some info on them.

I think there are a few RHD versions but rare as ducks binoculars

I think they are basically Fiat Punto mechanicals so conversion to right hand drive is not out of the question. There was at least one company who performed conversions. However, the cost of a conversion on an older example is likely to be a significant proportion of the car's value and if you were buying a new one would you really want it chopped about?

Mmmm, thanks all.

My main concern is also the LHD element. Also, why is the insurance group between 16 and 19!

You may have just answered your own question David. :D

Having driven a right hooker on the Continent I can tell you that it can be very hard work.

David!
Just buy another Cappo. Stop messing about looking at anything with wheels on it, and admit you need a Cappo!

The only problem with the Elise is it's so uncomfortable and basic if you do 50 miles it feels more like 500.

Nothing else is quite the same,
Nothing in the world,
There is nothing you can name,
That is anything like a
Cappuccino

Well - much as I love my Cappo - I'd have an Elise like a shot if I could :)
