Pachelbel's Canon in D

Postby Adrian Furniss » Mon Jul 17, 2006 23:29

They sure wrote a good tune in the late 17th Century, but I don't suppose Johann Pachelbel (1653-1706) ever thought it would be performed quite like this .......

Ream out your modem, pin back your lug holes and prepare yourself to be amazed! This kid is gooooood.

Jeez - he's fantastic.

I've been an axeman for years but that kid is so blisteringly good.
One of the best I've EVER heard.

I've been thinking recently about digging the old guitar out of the attic...

Don't think I'll bother now !

That lad is really astonishing..... 8O

Yeh but it's more.

It's John Williams without-

- the years of difficult musical training & practice
- all the knowledge that that discipline & the structure gives you
- all the hundreds of 'live' performances

This is a little kid in his bedroom extemporising brilliantly.
It is breathtakingly good (if stylistically repetititive here & there)

Love the way he is sooooo casual about the way he plays it, as if 'Yep it's all in a day's work!'

Fantastic way to start the day listening to that :D

I read the other day in one of the broadsheets that this lad has become an internet sensation, with the video being viewed by millions of people. He has been tracked down and appears to be a 23 year old Taiwanese student (not in music). His guitar playing is self taught!

Well, that seems to be a version of this story:

http://english.chosun.com/w21data/html/ ... 00024.html

The original of this arrangement of Pachelbel's Canon is by the Taiwanese Jerry C but, if we believe what is written here, the recording I posted is by a young Korean, eventually identified as 22-year-old Lim Jeong-hyun.
