Hot rotary control

Postby Chris da Silva » Sun May 29, 2022 08:23

Can anyone advise me on the following ....

There is a small rotary control situated on the dashboard between the steering column and centre console of the EA21R Cappo. Is this to control the intensity/brightness of the instrument lights when driving at night under ambient failing light?

If it is, then here's my problem ...

I was out last night in the Cappo and the lighting on the instruments was a bit dim. So I reached across to tweak the rotary control but found that it was very hot to the touch - something which never happened before! So I was wondering what's causing it - is something shorting out?

Is there a part number [for a replacement part] should it require replacing?

I can't find it on my Cappo, nor is it mentioned/shown in the Owner's Manual, so it must be aftermarket. It sounds like it is defective and should be taken out of circuit.

Hello Ian

Yes, I couldn't find it in either [in the Owner's Manual] so it has to be aftermarket as you quite rightly said! In that case, I will bring the Cappo to the auto electricians and get them to remove it.

I can therefore take it that there's only one fixed light intensity for the dashboard instruments (speedo, fuel gauge etc.); that is, if I went out for a drive in the evening, the dashboard will just light up when I switch on the driving lights.

OK - that's all I need to know. :D Thanks for your verification.

I'm just a little curious why the previous owner had that installed ..... Hmmmm!
