Replacement turbo for an EA21...

Postby Chris da Silva » Sat Apr 08, 2017 14:03

I'm thinking of replacing the existing factory-fitted [stock] turbo with an up-to-date unit on my EA21R. Can anyone out there advise me on an optimum replacement unit which does not require a timer?

There's nothing wrong with the present unit; and I fitted a turbo timer just as a precaution so I don't instinctively switch off the engine after I've parked up (as early turbo units require a very annoying winding-down time of about a minute... )!

(BTW, I'm going to keep the old turbo and its timer ...)

Thanks if anyone can help! :D

Have a look here, at the late and much-missed Dave Benson's mods page. Can't say whether the turbo's mentioned need a timer. though.

Thanks Ian. What I don't want to do is to modify anything on the car unnecessarily .... I just need a straight swap/upgrade sans countdown timer!

I'll try to find out more about upgrading to a current- and up-to-date turbo and post my findings here on the Club's website when I do. And you're right: Dave Benson did not mention whether his upgrade still needed a timer ....
