Rev Counter fuse

Postby Brian Murphy » Sat Apr 25, 2015 09:41

The rev counter has stopped working and I would like to check the fuse first but I am having trouble finding it.
I checked the fuse box, under the steering wheel, (with great difficulty) for reference on the cover/lid but unable
to find anything which relates.
Anybody help,please.

Hi Brian,

Refer to Pages 8-9 and 8-10 of the online Service Manual. They show that the relevant fuse is the one marked IG. COIL METER. If this fuse is blown, items 1-4 on page 8-10 (fuel, coolant temperature, speedo and tacho) will all not work, and the engine will not run because the ignition coil will be without power (Page 6F-3).

Assuming the other things are working (a safe bet, because you would not expect the tacho to work if the engine were not running), the other possible causes are that the power is not reaching the tacho (i.e. a fault inside the combination meter), the Brown wire from the coil is not conducting signal (page 6F-3), the Black-Blue stripe wire is not connected to earth, or the tacho itself is defective.

If you want a guess, look at the connections at the Noise Suppressor (Page 6F-3). A corroded pin in the connector could be to blame.

Hi Ian,
The promised outcome was that I could neither find nor fix the problem;therefore arrangements were made for the garage to fix it.
Glorious day today, up in Scotland, decided to go for a spin and 'holy, holy', the rev counter is working as normal. It just goes to show that a bit of sunshine
works wonders.
Regards,
Brian
